Gooseberry Hill National Park

Gooseberry Hill National Park is a hilly 33 hectare which has magnificent views of the Swan Coastal Plain and provides some amazing photography and bird watching opportunities. Within Gooseberry Hill National Park is the iconic a one-way scenic drive, known as the Zig Zag, which was formerly part of the railway line which serviced the timber industry and Stratham’s Quarry. The Zig Zag leads downhill through the park and, every year in early October, the Shire of Kalamunda holds a Zig Zag Walk event, where the road is open only to pedestrians allowing people the opportunity to admire the views and see the area’s wildflowers. The Zig Zag is also used as a stage in the Targa West Rally. You can access the top of Stratham’s Quarry from the Zig Zag which is also within the Park. Stratham’s Quarry is a great picnic spot. It has also been the scene of weddings, movies, abseiling accidents and many a brown pant moment! If you’re vertically inclined, the Quarry is a great spot for abseiling and rock climbing.

Fleming Reserve

On Newburn Road (between the intersections of Sorensen Road and Smith Crescent) lies Fleming Reserve. A community success story, the Reserve had been disused after many of the trees had been cut down to stop the spread of European Borer. Eager to claim the space back, a redevelopment project was initiated by local resident Michelle White with the support of local residents. The Fleming Reserve Redevelopment Project was an initiative driven by the High Wycombe Community Association in partnership with the Shire of Kalamunda. The community vision for Fleming Reserve was to create a multigenerational community play space that encourages physical activity and social interaction. The Reserve includes upgraded facilities such as – skate park / BMX Track and multi use youth area, children’s playground catering for children from 2-12 years of age, Community BBQ area, new toilet / change room, kiosk building, 1km internal pathway system, landscaping and public art. The project was a great success and today the reserve is bustling with youthful and family activities and community events.

Scott Reserve

Scott Reserve is utilised by sporting clubs and schools for various activities. The grounds are managed by the Shire of Kalamunda and are available for hire (phone: 9359 1700). There is adequate parking and the Reserve is accessible by bus. There are shops close by. Located adjacent to Scott Reserve is the High Wycombe Community & Recreation Centre.

Woodlupine Brook Reserve

Woodlupine Brook Reserve follows the brook from Cypress Rd to Forrestfield Forum. It is a picturesque steep sided brook with water in the winter. There is an unsealed walking and cycling path on the side. Coffee is available at Forrestfield Forum.

Access to the Damperia Court Public Open Space is by a rough 4WD track down the side boundary of No 17, Damperia Court. Crumpet Creek at the bottom is in its natural state – overgrown and unmaintained. The creek has steep sides with a path along the top.

Jorgensen Park

Located walking distance from the Kalamunda town centre, Jorgensen Park is a much loved recreational area (especially by runners, walkers and dog owners). Originally the Kalamunda Gold Course, the Park is a unique combination of grassed (though now unmaintained) fairways separated by pockets of bush. The Kalamunda Community Learning Centre is located in the grounds and a small section of the Bibbulmun Track also runs through the Park.
The Jorgensen Park Walk Trail is a fairly easy and enjoyable 2.7km loop around the Park.

Bill Shaw Reserve

Bill Shaw Reserve is comprised of a large area of bushland with two large cleared areas of grass. There is an unfenced playground with a garden seat. There are good quality concrete paths connecting the three roads bounding the park. Walliston Deli is located just across the road.

Hardinge Park is a great picnicking spot. It has a well maintained car park with designated bays. There are 4 BBQ’s and 7 shaded picnic tables. There is night lighting and tremendous views across the valley.
