Fleming Reserve

On Newburn Road (between the intersections of Sorensen Road and Smith Crescent) lies Fleming Reserve. A community success story, the Reserve had been disused after many of the trees had been cut down to stop the spread of European Borer. Eager to claim the space back, a redevelopment project was initiated by local resident Michelle White with the support of local residents. The Fleming Reserve Redevelopment Project was an initiative driven by the High Wycombe Community Association in partnership with the Shire of Kalamunda. The community vision for Fleming Reserve was to create a multigenerational community play space that encourages physical activity and social interaction. The Reserve includes upgraded facilities such as – skate park / BMX Track and multi use youth area, children’s playground catering for children from 2-12 years of age, Community BBQ area, new toilet / change room, kiosk building, 1km internal pathway system, landscaping and public art. The project was a great success and today the reserve is bustling with youthful and family activities and community events.

Pioneer Park Reserve

Pioneer Park Reserve is utilised by sporting clubs and schools for various activities. The grounds are managed by the Shire of Kalamunda and are available for hire. The area between Hicks Street and the disused Dawson tip is bushland. There are no amenities in this part of the park just a few 4wd dirt tracks.

Hartfield Park

Hartfield Park is primarily a public area maintained by Shire of Kalamunda for the use of Clubs involved in sports such as soccer, cricket, rugby, tennis, bowling, hockey and BMX. There is also a Scout Hall. Each discipline has its own club rooms leased from the Shire. There is one playground adjacent to the Kalamunda Districts Rugby Union Club. The grounds are available for hire. There is also a first class golf club. Between the team sports and the golf club there are Forrestfield Federation Gardens which is a dog exercise area containing a large lake, one garden seat and two picnic tables. No other facilities. The lake is surrounded by an all weather concrete path.

Scott Reserve

There is adequate parking and the Reserve is accessible by bus. There are shops close by. Located adjacent to Scott Reserve is the High Wycombe Community & Recreation Centre.

Kostera Cricket Oval

Kostera Oval is utilised by sporting clubs and schools for various activities. It is one of the Shire of Kalamunda’s major recreational grounds. The Oval backs onto Kalamunda Senior High School. It is used by the Kalamunda Cricket Club and the annual Agricultural Show is also held here. The Lapidary Club also has its rooms in a building located on the Recreation Road side. The playground is semi fenced. The grounds are managed by the Shire of Kalamunda and are available for hire (phone: 9359 1700). There is adequate parking and the Reserve is accessible by bus. The Kalamunda town centre is located within easy walking distance. Hedley Jorgensen Oval backs onto Kostera Oval.

Jorgensen Park

Located walking distance from the Kalamunda town centre, Jorgensen Park is a much loved recreational area (especially by runners, walkers and dog owners). Originally the Kalamunda Gold Course, the Park is a unique combination of grassed (though now unmaintained) fairways separated by pockets of bush. The Kalamunda Community Learning Centre is located in the grounds and a small section of the Bibbulmun Track also runs through the Park.
The Jorgensen Park Walk Trail is a fairly easy and enjoyable 2.7km loop around the Park.

Ray Owen Reserve

Ray Owen Reserve is utilised by sporting clubs and schools for various activities. It is one of the Shire of Kalamunda’s major recreational grounds and is located in Lesmurdie. It is used by the Kalamunda Junior Football Club, as well as other sporting clubs and organisations and also has a BMX track. Ray Owen Reserve is set to have a major upgrade in the near future. The grounds are managed by the Shire of Kalamunda and are available for hire (phone: (08) 9359 1700). There is adequate parking and the Reserve is accessible by bus.

Hardinge Park

Beelu National Park

Formerly known as Mundaring National Park, Beelu National Park is situated to the west of Mundaring Weir Road in the Shires of Mundaring and Kalamunda. This beautiful 3000 hectare park includes the popular recreation sites of Fred Jacoby Park, South Ledge, North Ledge, Farrell Grove, The Dell, Gungin Gully, Pimelia Mycumbene and Grevillea Mycumbene. The Park was renamed in 2008 as an acknowledgement of the traditional owners of the area. The word Beelu is derived from the Noongar word for river or stream. The Beelu people were the original peoples of the area whose district was bounded by the Helena, Swan and Canning Rivers. Most of Beelu National Park is covered by jarrah and marri woodland interspersed with grasstrees. Wandoo can be seen in granite areas while blackbutt and flooded gums are found along the valley floors. Spring sees a spectacular display of a wide range of wildflowers. The most visible inhabitants are the birds including the threatened Carnaby’s cockatoos, Baudin’s cockatoos, western warblers, splendid fairy wrens and grey shrike thrushes. Quendas, western brush wallabies and western grey kangaroos also live in park. In terms of facilities, Beelu National Park has toilets, wood barbecues, picnic tables and a good selection of hiking and mountain bike trails. An information centre, the Perth Hills National Parks Centre (Allen Road, Mundaring – just off the Mundaring Weir Road) is located within the park and is open between 10.00am and 4.00pm to offer advice and refreshments to visitors. Two campsites are available to use within the park.
