The first hospital in the Shire flourished in the 1920’s at the top end of Haynes Street.
It was originally build in 1899 and was known as “The Brown House”, set in a beautiful garden from which the owner, Mr. Burchardt, sold flowers. The Brown House was, in its time, a residence, boarding house and hospital. When it became a hospital, it was known as “Nurse Kelly’s”, since she owned and ran it. It was demolished in 1947. The current Kalamunda District Hospital was opened in October 1973.
